Cum by yah 3 - The Pilgrimage

Since its opening on March 24th 1929, St George’s Church in Ypres, Belgium has served as an important meeting point for many pilgrims over the decades and as memorial to the fallen. The church is beautifully adorned with brass wall plaques, banners, stained glass windows, kneelers cushions and bells, all memorialising regiments and individuals who gave their lives fighting on the Western Front for the freedoms that we enjoy today. Visitors come from all over the world to pay their respects, to find their lost relatives, contemplate the cost of war and to find inspiration. There is currently no mention of the British West Indies Regiment’s contribution on the Western Front. In partnership with St Georges Memorial Church, on Saturday 5th October we will rectify this omission. This year, a memorial plaque will be unveiled in a commemorative ceremony. It will stand as a permanent and emblematic reminder of the men who answered the call, travelling from the West Indies to fight for our freedom, but never returned home. To join us on this pilgrimage you can purchase an early bird ticket at: https://bit.ly/Cum-By-Yah3

Join us in our walkathon

The charitable fundraising walk will start and finish at The Royal Garrison Church of St George in Woolwich, London. Built in 1863, the Church and its artefacts commemorates members of the Royal Field Artillery who lost their lives in the Anglo-Boer War.

The walkathon is open to BWIRHT members, friends, family and supporters. It will cover 21 significant points of interest in and around Woolwich. Participants may run, walk, jog, skip or hobble along the route. The day will end with a barbecue and musical entertainment.

We are hoping to raise £4,000 towards the October commemorative event in Belgium. To participate email: events@bwirht.org
